One of the best parts about living in beautiful Jackson Hole is sharing it with your family and friends. Recently, I had a visit from my sister, niece and nephew. They hail from the other side of Wyoming and are quite familiar with Yellowstone, so for something different we headed to Snow King for the day. My family has always had a great time there because they offer something fun for everyone.
The newest addition to Snow King is the Treetop Adventure, which is a zip line ropes course. The Full Adult Course is a progressive course with varying levels. It ranges from 12-80 feet off the forest floor and includes obstacles like wobbly bridges, swinging logs, climbing nets and flying surfboards, all located along 13 different zip lines. Kids under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. If your group is younger, try the Flying Squirrel Course, which is designed for kids ages 7 and up. Cables are 6-10 feet above the forest floor for all the challenges except the zip line, which gets as high as 20 feet off the forest floor. Highlights include suspended swinging bridges, climbing walls and nets. Adult chaperones are required and can easily follow a child from the ground.
You’ll definitely want to make time for the other activities at Snow King, especially the new Cowboy Coaster! This is a great ways to check out some beautiful sights in a mountain setting and is available for anyone over 38” tall. Another fun ride down the mountain is the Alpine Slide; it’s the original attraction carved into the mountainside. You will sail down the slopes at your chosen speed and as soon as you are done, you’ll want to ride it again and again. Make sure to check out the only 18 hole miniature golf course in town, and don’t forget to take a turn on the bungee trampoline or the climbing rocks and playground located at the base area.
The hikers of Jackson Hole love to climb the King, with locals tracking their weekly treks. If you want the best mountain views, plan to get a workout by taking the 1.8 mile trail ascending 1,571 vertical feet from the main base area to the summit. When the chairlift is running, hikers are invited to ride down for $5 per rider. The Snow King Mountain trail system is also a connector for popular mountain bike trails in town, so don’t be surprised by the cyclists when hiking around.
In the summer season, Wednesday afternoons offer a special evening at the Snow King base area. The People Market serves up entertainment with local vendors selling food, produce and beer from 4 pm - 7 pm.
Snow King and the town of Jackson are 10 miles from most of our vacation rentals. Rendezvous Mountain Rentals would be happy to offer other tips for spending your day in Jackson and the surrounding area.
