The Fall season is one of the best and most "colorful" times to visit Jackson Hole. The foliage is stunning and there are still plenty of adventures to be had this time of year. Here’s a quick look at what’s happening this fall in Jackson Hole.

Enjoy Local Flavor
Every Saturday morning through Sept. 22, you are invited to join dozens of vendors on the Town Square in Jackson. The farmer’s market features local and fresh produce along with other tasty treats. This is also a great time to visit the downtown galleries and shops and enjoy a healthy, delicious start to your Jackson Hole getaway.
Have the Town to Yourself
Exploring both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Park in the fall is a wonderful experience. The colors are beautiful, the animals are coming down from the mountains and the weather is great for hiking. Most importantly, it’s less crowded than the summer season! You’ll want to check to make sure all services are open before heading out, but the southern entrance to Yellowstone is generally open until early November. It’s also a great time to live like a local and take advantage of restaurant specials and other discounted tourist attractions.
Go Paragliding
Start the day by checking out Mother Nature’s autumn apparel from the air with a Jackson Hole paragliding session. Typically available in the mornings through early October, they’ll undoubtedly leave you awestruck and longing for more.
Enjoy Wildlife (And Wildlife Art)
While this might be a more relaxed season for us, the animals are busy storing up nature’s bounty in preparation for winter. They are more active in the fall than they are in summer, and chances are very high that you will hear elks bugling their mating challenges as the sounds echo around the valley.
If you prefer to stay inside, head to the National Museum of Wildlife Art. It is open daily, year round except for select holidays. The museum’s grounds boast a ¼ mile long sculpture trail that is free to access. To enjoy the interior exhibits, you’ll need to remit a modest fee. When you’re finished enjoying both, stop by the onsite café and gift shop before calling it a day.
Concerts & Special Events
Late autumn in Jackson Hole is also a great time to enjoy a concert at the Pink Garter Theatre or attend a special event. One of the more popular special events is the Town Square Lighting, which typically takes place after the Thanksgiving holiday. The event usually includes live musical entertainment, munchies and a visit from Santa and his sled dogs.

Shift: October 16-18
This year’s SHIFT makes the critical connection between time spent outside on our lands and waters and the health and wellbeing of all Americans. From Oct. 16-18 in Jackson, Wyoming, SHIFT will feature the innovators, early adopters and thought leaders at the forefront of the “Nature Rx” movement with an agenda that creates a stronger connection between — and thus a stronger argument for — public health and public lands. Public health is the last frontier of ecosystem services. This year’s SHIFT will explore it.
